Understanding R3d files and Hierarchy?
on Jun 20, 2017 at 7:19:36 pm

OK. Here goes, I know this sounds crazy but, I have never worked with R3d files before. I'm a medium experienced Adobe PP CC 2017, Windows user. I have watched a number of YT videos on red footage in PP CC 2017, I have the task of editing a Full 114 Min (Approximate) feature film, All shot with 2 Red cameras.

I do have a full printed out script, All of the audio was recorded off-camera, so it will need to be synced. I have all the files on a 10 Terabyte HD.
I have never seen this footage before, it does not have a digital clapper, with time-code that I can see yet. and I have 4-5 months to complete this project.

I'm trying to understand the Red Hierarchy, Here is what folders I have on my HD:

Day1/CamA/Card1/A001_1026VQ.RDM/ (Then there are Multiple folders with the R3d file in each folder) Then the rest of the hierarchy repeats itself, under Day1/CamB/Card1, Card2, Card3 Then as I understand it, when shooting video over 4 gigs a clip, it gets split into two separate clips?
Then there is Day1 through Day13, Same for Audio, all in .wav files.

I'm looking for the best way to organize these clips in Adobe PP CC 2017, and get the audio synced. I'm sure there are some logical reasons for all the folders.
If anyone knows how to deal with this please chime in. Also, any plugins, or Apps that can help would be greatly appreciated!

Then after I get this figured out, I have to edit a two camera movie, I know I'm crazy, but I want to do this project.

The reason for the folders that contain the elements for each clip is that the RED cameras generate several different files for each clip. In addition, because of FAT32 formatting, clips will be spanned, with a file change every 4GB. I'm pretty sure the newest version of Premiere will natively recognize the RED files. This lets Premiere understand the RED file structure (you only see the complete clip file in Media Browser, not the pieces or folders) and lets you have direct control of the raw camera data.
