EXIF metadata

Why does Premiere Pro not display EXIF metadata in video clips?

It shows as much as you want for stills, but despite there being a load of metadata in a movie clip, you cannot get it displayed in Project. Just use exiftool.exe to show it and then try to get it displayed in PrPro.

I would like to know the parameters used to shoot scenes to understand why, for instance, the shot didn't turn out well. Yes, I can turn to exiftool, but if the ability to see metadata is available, why isn't it active?

Because EXIF is for still images only, and doesn't exist for video?

Video files have their own kind metadata and it's used if it is supported. These usually cover timecode, reel name and possible RAW settings. There are formats that have additional metadata that only show up in their manufacturers proprietary software eg. Sony does this a lot.

Tero

There's much more than that in the average video file.

Download exiftool from

and have a look.

Oh no!

EXIF exists for video just as for stills. There is a free utility called exiftool, the gui version can be downloaded here:

Using this, you can see all the metadata in a video file - there's quite a lot, usually.

[James McCosh] "there's quite a lot, usually."

Most of it is also pretty much irrelevant when it comes to video production which is probably why it is not shown.
