Changing clips to vertical video (9:16)
on May 6, 2017 at 5:18:40 pm

Hi, I'm shooting material to a 9:16 video. I'm using RED Epic MX in 90deg angle.

When I'm importing clips to Premiere CC 17. I have to drag all the clips (recorded in 16:9) to a 9:16 timeline and use the rotation tool to make them look correct. Is there any faster way to change the clip attributes to be in the correct format also when previewing?

Thanks!

First, I have to ask. Do you actually need 9:16? Most of the live content I see is rotated on site and actually plays in 16:9.

Drop the Transform effect (set rotation) on the masterclips.

Almost every monitor used for vertical display is simply rotated 90 degrees.
You just have to ask it it's being rotated clockwise or counter clockwise. You can then work in a 9x16 timeline.
When the edit is complete, nest it in a 16x9 timeline, rotating it either clockwise or counterclockwise to match the monitor's rotation.

If it plays back upside-down, you'll know you got it wrong.
