You could create a Quicktime animation file, with no compression at all. The files, predictably, can be gi-normous.

Alternatively, go with a lossless, lightly compressed format like one of the Avid DNxHD codecs. You may have a slightly less gi-normous file.

System:
Dell Precision T7600 (x2)
Win 7 64-bit
32GB RAM
Adobe CC 2015.02 (as of 6/2016)
256GB SSD system drive
4 internal media drives RAID 5
Typically cutting short form from HD MP4 and P2 MXF.

Hi Jon,
I have installed Avid DNxHD from http://cdn.avid.com/Codecs/LE/2.7.3/0B9447EC/CodecsLE_2.7.3_Win.zip
and I cannot seem to see the option within Premiere 2017 11.1.0(222) Build in windows 10
I don't know what went wrong.
Any tips to be able to see that option " Avid DNxHD codecs" within premiere please

After install DNxHD codecs you have to restart your computer - In Premiere the DNxHD are under Quicktime !

You don't need to install any AVID codecs with Premiere CC 2017, the DNxHD codecs (.mxf) are built-in already

" In Premiere the DNxHD are under Quicktime !"
there's no DNxHD are under Quicktime "

But if I don't select quicktime I have DNxHR/DNxHD .
if that's what you mean do I select DNxHQ ...
if so
do I select 1080p DNxHD HQ-8-bit under Video Resolution

Kind Regards

Kimberley,

Do you not have the default DNxHDformat option available to you? This should be in Premiere without installing additional codecs.

Select a Preset to match the footage, for instance DNxHD HQ 1080p 29.97 are whatever matches. Don't be intimidated by the 100+ presets. One of those at top of list should be fine, the rest are for higher bit-depth, or 4K, etc.

Thanks

Thank you again Jeff,
It's intimating alright I'm afraid.

My source and other info:

source file 1080p .mov
24 fps
low compression
video Overall bit rate : 88mb
16:9
audio Bit rate: 1 500 kb/s
premiere 2017 @windows 10

Please check/correct me if the following I have done so far is ok:

default DNxHDformat
DNxHQ 1080p 23.976 preset
1080p DNxHD HQ 8-bit video codec resolution

-----------------------

I have one reminder from another person says

most systems accepts MXF format,
but sometimes incompatible.
It is better if you also get .mov in DNxHD as well.

If you agree, would you show me how to get to .mov. selection output via DNxHD please ?

all the best

Can I ask a really dumb question? If you (or anybody, really) are just saving the files as backup and you want the highest quality, why not just keep (or make copies of) the original files, along with the Premiere Pro project file? Mind you I don't do this professionally and I may be missing something here, but sometimes, from the minds of morons, come the simplest solutions. That's gonna be on my gravestone, btw.

Thank you Duke, very valid question
I'll keep the source file and the Premiere pro project file OK
On the other hand, I am not the editor, and I may not be having the premiere pro let's say in a year or two time
Considering I may not access to the person who does my editing right now, as well as premiere a year later

I rather have the output video file as a backed up copy.
Does that make sense?

Thank you again Ole Kristiansen.
I get to DNx.. settings via DNx.. at format option
then DNx.. at preset option
then 1080p DNx.. at video codec resolution option
With the quicktime setting at format option
I get 720x480 output where as my source file is 1080p
all the best
