Different Frame Rate received for RAW footage
on Aug 17, 2016 at 2:57:02 pm

Hi Creativecow,

We received some files to edit but for some of them frame rate is 14.99fps. They sent us file type as MPEG-4.
We called studio and they said to open the file in quicktime pro and save as .mov. Some files worked while others do not. After saving them as .mov, I brought the file in premiere pro CC, it brings only half of the clip. When i play in quicktime pro, it plays full length.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

What frame rate did you expect to get, and what was the duration of the clips you expected?

If they play fine in QT Pro, you should EXPORT them -- don't just save them -- using a high quality codec. I recommend QT's in Photo JPEG, JPEG 2000, ProRes (if you have it) or PNG codecs.

The studio that sent H.264 MP4's ought to have its head examined. It's a lousy media container and a lousy codec for intermediate files. Apparently they don't care much about preserving image quality.
