How to "translate-back" in and out points
on Aug 2, 2016 at 12:30:47 pm

Sorry if this is a FAQ, but what I'm looking for is slightly odd and I didn't know what keywords to search for it. Let me describe:

I select a clip, mark in & out and put it in the timeline. Once in the timeline, I further trim it. Is there a command to "translate back" the new in & out points to the original clip in the project?

(Why do I need this? I'm syncing by hand several video and audio clips and creating merged clips with them, and it would be really helpful to be able to trim the audio file in the timeline just once, instead of: 1) trim it and sync it with the video; 2) open the audio clip and trim it again, so that I can 3) merge the clips based on IN or OUT point).

In the sequence, park the play head somewhere in the clip you want.
Click and highlight the clip in the sequence.
Hit "f" key to Match Frame.
This will load the clip into the Source window with the in and out points that match the clip in the sequence.

Is the what you are looking for?

*sigh*... It's been too long since I've done serious editing, if I've forgotten something as basic as Match Frame. Thanks a lot; that's exactly what I was looking for.
