Replace clips in Sequence (from EDL) with Multi-cam Sequence as source

Hi there,

Drag and drop while holding Option+Shift allows me to replace a clip in my sequence while maintaining IN and OUT points. Doing this with multiple clips selected in the sequence only respects IN and OUT for the first clip. Is there a way to do this kind of batch replacement?

I'm doing this to replace the instances of an MP4 file which was used to edit in another application – I've imported a sequence via EDL and would like to replace all instances with my original multi-cam sequence. The MP4 file was an export of just the A CAM layer of this multi-cam sequence, so all time-codes align.

I haven't been able to find much online about this. Many suggestions to unlink and link the media, but I'm not trying to reattach to a file, but an existing multi-cam sequence within Premiere.

thanks in advance,
Laurence.

Did you ever find a solution? We have the same need. We're exporting a multicam stringout as an h264, importing that h264 into a program called autoedit which allows text editing of transcripts with the video attached to each edit so that a producer can watch the a-roll that he or she has created from the text editing.

Once the a-roll is completed we'd like to export an edl or xml from autoedit
that can import into premiere and then we'd replace the h264 stringout with the original multicam source sequence string.

Hi Greg,

That is exactly what I was doing ☺

I ended up not pursuing autoEdit as part of my workflow, but I never did figure out how to swap out the MP4 proxy for my multi-cam sequence. It seemed like it should work, so perhaps it is a bug in Premiere. I haven't tried it with the latest 2019 version yet.

There's always the wish-list forum for Adobe products. If you end up adding a feature request please report back here and I'll add my +1.

cheers,
Laurence.

Funny that we had the same need. I've been in contact with Pietro, the creator of AutoEdit, and he's attempting to assist in getting this concept to work. I'll keep you posted on our progress. He also has an updated version of Autoedit which is more robust than the previous iteration.
