Premiere Pro appears to be lowering footage quality
on Feb 25, 2019 at 6:46:14 pm

I am experiencing an issue where Premiere Pro CC 2019 appears to be lowering the quality of my video footage and I can't figure out why.

Footage was shot on a Canon EOS R at 59.97FPS (All-I format)
This is Premiere version 13.0.3

This is a screenshot of a clip in Quicktime before importing into Premiere

And this is the same clip after importing with no effects applied to the clip at all

Hi Nathan,

If the Sequence Settings do not match the Source Video specs, that could be an issue. For instance, 1080p footage in an SD (NTSC) sequence is being converted from HD to SD so yes, that will look soft.

What are the source specs and sequence settings used?

Thanks

Jeff

Both the clip and the sequence are 1080P (NTSC).

I would double-check to make sure your source does match your sequence - drag source clip to new sequence item lower right of bin. See if that works. And you are looking at "Fit" to window. How big is that? Put it to 100% and see if it looks like it does outside of PPro.

Export a short piece and import to compare to original, how does that look? Previews can be deceiving

You might check to make sure your playback resolution is set to Full (lower right of timeline viewer, next to wrench icon). Also double check the Paused Resolution to make sure you're getting the full image.

John - You can see in the screen grab it is set to full. Although, the image is set to FIT to window. Which is what I'm guessing is the problem.
