How to set up raid
on Oct 21, 2018 at 10:18:20 pm

Hello. I just purchased a Pegasus raid, R6 WITH 6TB
I have been editing a film with the latest Adobe Premiere CC
My iMac is 2011, but I have updated the hard drive.

I have started working with the Pegasus, but there is no difference in playback or render time.

I have placed my Premiere file on the Raid, but the movie files are stilling on other external drives.

Is there a certain way I need to work with things, or set up my workflow... I must be doing something wrong.

How can I get the best performance how do I need to set things up to take advantage of my new Raid?

Thanks..

3.1 GHz Intel Core i5
6 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB

Andy

Hi Andrew,

You definitely want all your footage on the RAID, and set your preview file path to the RAID as well.

The project itself can really be anywhere, that doesn't matter.

Depending on the footage, you may not see a huge difference. Your bottleneck is likely on the CPU/Graphics card on a 2011 machine.

How many physical drives in your RAID make up the 6TB?
What RAID config have you got (it normally ships as RAID 5 which isn't ideal for speed)
Have you run a drive speed test on the RAID and if do how many MB per second do you get.
