Please excuse any offense or transgression: I've been making short films, videos, and DVDs since about 2001, in drips and drabs, always on Macs in FinalCut or (gulp) iMovie. My daughter may soon go to college as a film major, and they'll be using Adobe Creative Suite (about which I know nothing). We'll need to get her a Mac (PC verboten) laptop, and I'm trying to figure out the minimum COMFORTABLE configuration that will get her at least a couple years down the pike. (Please assume that there's HD and maybe the occasional 4K involved; the school loans out Reds.) By comfortable, I mean no spinning rainbow of death. I'm fine with buying an external USB/Thunderbolt drive and even an external screen, if needed. This is really a question about: 1) memory, 2) processor, 3) storage (I think).
If anyone has thoughts on specific models, please identify them by Apple's model number; there's a lot of spec overlap in this space.
