Avid Editor using Premiere Question
on Mar 5, 2018 at 10:00:26 pm

2 things I always do on Avid that I'm having trouble doing in premiere

1) -- say I want to add 10 secs of black in between two Avid I "load filler" in the source, mark an in and out of 10 secs splice it in and everything moves down 10 would do this in premiere?

2) ....lets say I have only one 3 sec clip in the timeline and I want to now make it 4 avid I would move the playhead 1 sec ahead and hit "extend"

How do I do this in premiere? (I do not want to grab the trim handle and try to roll it out to exactly 1 sec)

Thanks so much in advance,

there's multiple ways to go about these things but two options:

1. load black video into source side and make your insert edit

2. map "extend previous edit to playhead" on your keyboard. Move your playhead to your extend point and hit the key.

The difference in extend functionality in PP vs AMC is that in PP you have to select the edit(s) to extend.

To open up a gap you can also ‘select right’ like Avid/FCP and drag or type in a number.

PP is not as strong as Avid in trimming /slipping/sliding though. You get used to it!
