Premiere Pro CC 2018 - problems importing 1080HD AVI files
on Feb 21, 2018 at 10:45:47 am

Hi,

I'm trying to import 1080HD AVI files into Premiere Pro CC 2018 (PC Windows) and I keep getting a "File Import Failure" message "Unsupported format or damaged file" and can't continue. I've been using PP CS5 up to now and just switched to the new version yesterday. I've never had a problem before. I know it's not a corrupt file as have tried dozens of files and they were all fine in the previous version.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Bruce

Where did this file come from and what codec is in it?

It was originally captured in Premiere Pro CS5 from a Blackmagic Teranex 2D using a Decklink SDI 4K (Blackmagic) card.

You need the Black Magic M-JPEG .avi codec to play those files, available by installing Black Magic capture card drivers.

Go to this page: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/family/capture-and-playback

Look under Latest Downloads - Desktop Video 10.9.11 for Windows

Click WINDOWS then skip entering any info and select DOWNLOAD ONLY at lower left. Download and install driver, then you should be able to play/edit those files. CLOSE Premiere when installing.

Thanks

Jeff
