Sony NEX EA50 - shutter speed when shooting 1080/25p
on Apr 17, 2013 at 5:17:25 pm

Hi Guys,
Got my NEX EA50 the other day and captured some wedding footage with it, and I notice the shutter speed when used in 1080i/25p FX would stay at a rate of 25(auto), is this ok??
I watched the footage back and have to say I could not see any issues.
If this is ok and can be cleared up i would be very greatful.
Thanks,
H

Yup it's right. the 25p in 1080/25p means that you are shooting 25 progressive frames per second.

But wasn't the question about shutter speed?

You can shoot 25 frames per second with different shutter speeds. As I have understood, the shutter speed, for "film" look, is recommended to be (inverse) double to the frame rate. Hence for 25p you would prefer a shutter speed of 1/50 second (you can read a lot about this at least in the DSLR/video blogs and books).

I own the Sony a77 DSLR where I can control that, but also the CX-760e, where I cannot (at least not fully).

Now I am thinking of the EA50. Does anybody know if I can set manually the shutter speed and the camera would control the gain respectively in order to get correct exposure?
