Converting Alexa log C 444 footage to AVID DNXHD

I'm getting ready to shoot a job on ARRI Alexa and the client is asking if we can transcode the footage on set to Avid DNXHD on set. Are there any utilities available to handle that but still retain the timecode and metadata from the original log c file. We're usually working with the log c footage in FCP or we transcode to Apple Pro res LT for offline. As always thanks for your time... your help is greatly appreciated.

You can get the mac versions of the AVID CODECS and you can use Compressor as the batch transcoder.

David,

I was able to download the codec from Avid's website but I'm a bit lost on how to get compressor to recognize them.

The DNxHD codecs show up as one of the QT codec options.

FWIW - Avid MC6 Mac can work natively with the ProRes files. Both via AMA and as a standard import. In the latter case, the file is rewrapped from MOV to MXF without conversion (only copying).

Resolve Lite can do that. And it's free.

And can have the LogC applied if shot that way to make proper REC 709 dailies. Just make sure you set up the source correctly for filename, etc.
