Max frame rate with cards

Hi,

What's the max frame rate using the SxS cards? Can I shoot 60fps?

I read the manual... looks like 30fps is the limit for now. Does anyone know if 60fps will be possible with the Alexa using the onboard SxS cards? I see there are some updates to do, including enabling audio.

60 fps capture as ProRes 4:2:2 to the cards will not be enabled until after the first of the year.

Hi Chris,

I'm sure you know by now that the SUP 2.1 has implemented 60fps on all ProRes versions except 12 Bit 4444 which is limited to 40fps. this is the major feature of the upgrade and a few bug fixes. The next version 3.0 will have many of the features we've been waiting for like audio, exposure indicators and mirrored SxS card recording. I hope they also implement the SxS card spanning, but for some reason this is still meeting internal resistance within ARRI.

the 12 bit functionality is not yet enabled internally or externally as far as I know and is not due until the 3.0 software release.

Gary,

According to the 2.o and 2.1 manual and the actual readout of the recoding format display on the camera the 12-bit 4444 IS fully implemented and functional on SxS cards. I've been using it almost exclusively.

Empirical proof is that in the 10 bit 422 setting we're getting 21 minutes per card at 23.97 and in the 4444 setting we're getting 14 minutes. This indicates if nothing else a fatter recoding with more data and information.

The ARRIRAW on the other hand, which is also a 12 bit 4444 format has not been implemented although I've seen beta version that works with the S.Two recorder as recently as last Thursday at Band Pro's open house. This is an eagerly awaited feature on the Alexa as many high end users would like to have the full sensor readout in an uncompressed format for the ultimate quality.

For me the economy and ease of the various ProRes formats enabled on the SxS recoding is so much better than what we've had up to now that I couldn't be happier or more thrilled.

I did not rely on a data rate guess, I put the signal thru a spectrum analysis, and had my results confirmed by Arri, the camera is not yet recording or outputting a 12 bit signal, and it is my understanding that function is due when the Arriraw implementation is turned on.

I too have seen ArriRaw, it was shown during IBC openly at the Arri booth.

IMO If it weren't ARRI people would think this kind of overcranking capabilities in this day and age were a joke.
