Hi all,

How do I convert the ALEXA ProRes 4444 material to Pro-RES 422 (LT) for editing so that I can then relink to ProRes 4444 at a later date for online.

I was planning on adding Nick Shaws Look to all material then exporting via compressor, edit then take the EDL form FCP into my ONLINE machine and conform of that with the PRO-RES 4444, will this work?

Marcus

The fastest way to do this is with Compressor or Episode from your original ProRes content, that way there is continuity between the file naming and the TC on the original clips.

I concur with Gary. I'd go compressor for this job. You might want to create a preset and burn in the TC from the original files, just to make sure you can see the difference.

Prores is very robust.

Right, but how do you burn in the Nick Show LUT in Compressor? Isn't it a FCP plugin?

You'd have to use FCP to add the LUT with burn-in. Apply the filter as a source-side effect to the clip. Then use Media Manager to Recompress the file. That will generate new media with matching TC attributes. Use those to edit. If you go this route, I would highly suggest you investigate Matchback Magic from Assisted Editing.

Oops. Did a quick test. Recompress doesn't embed the LUT. Follow these steps, instead.

You have to apply the filter on the source side (in the Viewer) as mentioned before, but use Export to convert the file. In the browser, right-click the master clip and select Export / QuickTime. Then change your settings from "current settings" to the desired codec in the export dialogue. You can also use Batch Export.
