I guess it boils down to experience & luck. I have had massive WD failures and find segate & lacie to live much longer lives. Saying that I have experienced a 100% failure rate between all drives. My experience with WD is they are lucky to make it a year.

Results vary, see dealer for details.

REPLY - I guess that's why Apple puts WD Caviar Black's in every new Mac Pro, and has been doing so for some time. I guess everyone's Mac Pro fails within the first year.

Welcome to Creative Cow Roger - I see you joined yesterday.

Bob, if everyone left Creative Cow tomorrow, and you were the only one left, I would still come around just for these...

My experience with the W.D. Caviar blacks is the same as the flat versions of the Maxtors: The ones that draw less than 600 milliamperes on the 5 volts (or 3.3 volts) power input as well as less than 600 milliamperes on the 12 volts power input, are the worthwile ones for performance and reliability. The high power ones roast. It also helps to keep good air- flow past the circuit card. If you can`t get your hands on good Hitachis or western Digitals at the time, try Fujis (maybe better than the W.D.s).
