Hi -
after reading this thread on Creative Cow -

http://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/292/1304

I was anxious to try the Areca ARC-1882x. From the review, it seems like it truly is the speed king. However, after getting one, and running it on a MAC Pro with OS X 10.6.8, Hitachi Enterprise drives, and a drive enclosure that houses the ARC-8026 SAS expander, I am not getting any where near the speeds that was shown by this exciting post.

Are there any "tricks" or settings in the MRAID utility that need to happen to achieve these speeds? Or perhaps, are the Seagate drives running much faster than the Hitachi Enterprise 6G 3TB drives ?
Or perhaps, is the ARC-8026 SAS expander (running October 2011 firmware) slowing things down.

I anxiously await your reply.

I am bit suspicious of those numbers with 1) only 8 drives, and 2) the large disparity between read and write speeds on RAID5/6. They are admittedly using SAS drives, but even at each drive's rated sustained throughput of 155MB/sec, you'd only get 1240 MB/sec read speed with 8 drives, and that's theoretical. I suspect some caching got into some of these tests.

I found a review of the 1882 (using SSDs) in which there is also some comparison to the 1880.
