Advice for small company video data server? (After Effects)
on Oct 4, 2011 at 2:51:31 pm

Hi Creative Cow!

We are a small digital media company (about 8 editors), and we are looking for a professional solution for simultaneously accessing and editing our media files. It would be ideal if there was 1 place where all files are stored, yet we can all access it at full speed. Also, it would be nice that when we get more editors, we could expand the acces without giving up speed for relatively low cost (meaning we don't have to replace the whole system with an upgraded version)

Anyway...we really have no idea where we should look for this, but maybe you guys can help us!

Kind regards,
Coen Deurloo

Coen,

We have the perfect solution, it is called Final Share. You can connect multiple users to one drive array and if you need to add more clients that is not a problem. If you run out of storage you can just daisy chain another drive array and we can set it up as volume two. This is the most cost effective way to have shared storage. If you could contact me directly at 714-374-4944 so I can go over some more details with you.

Sincerely,

John West

A system like Final Share is a simple MAC Server, connected to a big disk drive array, and an ethernet switch with 10Gig ethernet, to get the speeds. Each AE client will get 90MB/sec per client. It will NOT work as a render farm, so don't think you can create a cluster with Final Share to be a render farm for you. Final Share only uses simple Apple File Sharing, so there is no custom software to learn.

I would look into the Seagra Technology, Inc NAS/SAN solution. This company has NAS and SAN Solution. Product you might want to look into the STSRFC4-X which is the SAN Ready 4Gbps. You can Add Storage as your need.
It has a nice configuration like 4Gbps per 5 Drive RAID which is 350MB/Sec. Their solution is simple. You can google or look at the web site.

They in the business 20+ year. Price very competitive. This company has complete solution which has FC HBA. Look at the STF400PE product also which is 4Gbps Fibre Channel.
