Incredible latency on some (but not all) mmsh streams
on May 8, 2012 at 5:05:36 pm

I'm attempting to create a couple of apps (or rather my cleverer developers are) for Android and iPhone platforms which transcode various streams on the client end using FFMPEG.

Some streams will buffer up and transcode perfectly while others can take about 3-5 minutes to produce any output. Opening the troublesome streams in Windows Media Player work fine, as normal.

One such stream is (for example). A simple line to spit out a series of images like:

ffmpeg -i "mmsh://" image%d.jpg

Will work after about 3 minutes have elapsed. Other streams (e.g. same IP/cscamscape) are within the acceptable buffering time of about 5-10 seconds.

I'm struggling to see what switches I can use to improve the troublesome streams, and so viewers won't have to sit there for 5 minutes whilst FFMPEG figures out what to do with it. Any ideas?

If any of you can test in the wild to improve the simple troublesome (cssaitek1) URL's time, I'm happy to pay for your time.
