4096x4096 encoding to MPEG-2
on Oct 7, 2011 at 10:41:23 pm

When encoding 4096x4096 source images, the output has 4096x4096 pixel resolution, but displays only the top left quarter (2k worth) of the original image

ffmpeg -f image2 -i V:ffmpegtestAL-3AL-3-ffmpeg-test_%05d.png -r 30 -bufsize 2M -b:v 36000k -minrate:v 36000k -maxrate:v 36000k e:sliceAL-3-ffmpeg-test-4k-4k-from-source.m2v

ffmpeg -f image2 -i V:ffmpegtestAL-3AL-3-ffmpeg-test_%05d.png -r 30 -bufsize 2M -b:v 36000k -minrate:v 36000k -maxrate:v 36000k -s 4096X4096 e:sliceAL-3-ffmpeg-test-4k-4k-explicit.m2v

MPEG-2 Output at 2k, however, showed the entire image.

ffmpeg -f image2 -i V:ffmpegtestAL-3AL-3-ffmpeg-test_%05d.png -r 30 -bufsize 2M -b:v 36000k -minrate:v 36000k -maxrate:v 36000k -s 2048x2048 e:sliceAL-3-ffmpeg-test-2k.m2v

I tested by "encoding" jpg frames, output frames showed the entire image.

ffmpeg -f image2 -i V:ffmpegtestAL-3AL-3-ffmpeg-test_%05d.png -s 4096x4096 -f image2 V:ffmpegtestAL-34k-encode-check-framesAL-3-ffmpeg-test-4k_%04d.jpg

Can you give me hope that ffmpeg will be able to encode the resolution I need?

I installed this: ffmpeg-git-6638207-win32-static.7z
I read this: ffmpeg.html
this: faq.html
and this: general.html

Many thanks for any advice,

Geoff Skelton
