Resizing Images

I'm trying to use the command line:
ffmpeg -i mixedFrame%4d.JPG ../outputmovie$DATETIME.mp4

But, the .JPGs I have are 5.8MB each, which is way too large for the system to handle. How can I convert the size of the images to a smaller size?

I tried using ImageMagick by using the "convert -resize" command with a counter:

counter=1000
for f in IMG*.JPG; do
> counter=counter+1
> echo $counter
> small${counter:1}.JPG
> convert -resize 50%
> done

a series of "-bash: smallounter+1.JPG: command not found
convert: option requires an argument `-resize' @ error/convert.c/ConvertImageCommand/2352." messages was the terminal's response.

Does anyone know why this isn't working?

not sure based on the info posted but certainly looks like a problem with your convert command not having an input... Is this part of a shell script?
