how to measure encoding speed for different preset files?
on Mar 7, 2011 at 8:28:41 pm

I'm trying to compare the performances of FFMPEG and x264 with different preset files in terms of encoding speed -- but I'm not sure how to obtain the exact time that is needed to encode the same file using different preset files. How is encoding speed measured in this case? Is there some option(s) that I should enable in ffmpeg that gives me the statistics on time needed to encode a file using different presets (e.g. veryslow, slow, medium, fast, faster...)
Thanks!

Yes. It is the -benchmark option.

Use "1> benchmark.txt" to write it to a file.
