Deinterlacing M2TS files
on Feb 24, 2011 at 9:56:34 pm

I have a bunch of M2TS files which were created by a camcorder using an interlaced mode. I would like to be able to deinterlace them. Is there a way to do so with FFmpeg, with the proviso that the quality of the resulting, deinterlaced, file should not suffer? Also, would it be possible for the output file to be in M2TS format as well?

[John Coulson] " I would like to be able to deinterlace them."

Use "-deinterlace" in your encode string. You could also investigate yadif which is another method.

ALL deinterlacing = quality loss. Basically, at the simplest level you are throwing away one field and duplicating the other so getting half vertical resolution.

Use "-f mpegts" in your encode string.
