Setting max width and max height
on Feb 16, 2011 at 4:08:19 pm

Is there a way to set the maximum width and maximum height when converting a video? I'd like to maintain the aspect ratio. I'd like the video to not change size unless it is larger than the given max width/height. Is that possible via command line?

Yes but not in a single command. I have a script that does this by doing an input analysis to identify the size, running some very simple logic to determine if it is larger than what is required and setting/using variables to write the FFmpeg command size options based on the results of the logic.

Display aspect ratio or pixel aspect ratio?
