static electricity

I'm evaluating a new on-location monitor, and have been looking at the 7". But what's holding me back is an unfortunate experience with a small HD monitor from one of FSI's competitors. I had walked across carpet, inadvertently building up a nice electrical charge, and when I adjusted the monitor the static discharge killed it.

Is this a fluke? Has FSI dealt with this?

HI Bob, I've seen this with a good deal of small monitors from numerous manufacturers on the market, but most of the time I've seen them simply freeze or turn off. Typically a simple power cycle resolved the issue. Perhaps a great deal of the issue is related to most not running on a grounded AC connection as they are battery or 4 pin xlr powered, not sure, but that would be my guess? I don't think we've ever had physical damage to a unit because of a static discharge, but in the unlikely event that one of our monitors was actually rendered inoperable by such a scenario it would be covered by the standard 2 year warranty.
