Viewing XYZ on a BM 230?
on Nov 11, 2013 at 11:00:53 am

Hi, a project that I graded needs to go out to DCP.

Up until now I have been grading with Resolve 9 and a Decklink 4K card on a FSI BM230, monitoring in REC709 space and everything has been good and consistent. Now the producers have asked me to output 16-bit TIFFs in XYZ colorspace, which Resolve lets me do, but the image appears very different, much more grey/green.

How do I set up my BM230 to interpret XYZ correctly? Or should I just export it in RGB and let the DCP engineer worry about color space conversion?

I tried exporting a test TIFF sequence in XYZ and then putting it in Premiere Pro to have it play back on my BM230, but the colors aren't right there either. How do I get an image on the Fladers that I can trust will look similar to that in XYZ? Or is this a limitation of the cheaper BM series monitors? Thanks!

Reinis

Yes, take care of the conversion when creating the DCP.

While you can export to XYZ the configurations you mention do not output 12 bit XYZ for monitoring.
