Hi Guys,

we just got new LM-2410W monitors at work and they look great, just one question about the Processing we mostly deal with SD interlaced footage still and was wondering what is the best for viewing or is it just personal preference. Normal, Fast & Noise Reduction.

I prefer Noise Reduction because all the graphics on screen look so much bette,r but dont want to view in that if I may missing something.

PS im also the graphics guy too so im in AE alot.

Sorry for the late response, just came across this post.

Noise Reduction is what we often call 'client approval mode' because it does look quite good if dealing with lower resolution and/or noisy footage. However, for critical evaluation we suggest using Normal (or Fast) modes as these really show you the footage as it really is without NR filters. More importantly in Noise Reduction the image is deinterlaced and displayed as progressive, whereas in Normal and Fast Mode the interlaced source is shown to you as interlaced so you can more easily catch interlacing issues like field reversals.

So in short the pretty mode (Noise Reduction) may not be the best mode if you are using it for critical evaluation and/or QC of the source.
