Nikon DSLR: record a video directly to a computer
on Nov 24, 2012 at 10:12:05 pm

Is there a way to record uncompressed videos from a Nikon DSLR (D7000) to my computer?

Cinematographer Pro 4 allows me to capture videos in .MOV (compressed).

Is there a way to capture them uncompressed? Maybe using HDMI or other stuff?

Thank you

My feeling would be "no" is the answer. The Nikon D800 was the first DSLR that had hdmi uncompressed out.

As noted, the 8 bit 4.2.2 compression is not available on the D7K.

Canon users via Magic Lantern, have hacks availed to do that but AFAICT Nikon does not get that love.

Note for HDMI direct on the D800 these are 1080i and some type of "B" frames priority designed by Nikon's engineering crew.

Not at issue for most.

Some say the Nikon sensor/OS outperform for DR versus the Canons.

Yes, I've spent a lot of time watching video comparison between D800 vs 5D Mark III, and Nikon DR looks a lot better.

However, Canon wins in low light conditions and moire: D800 cannot be used on pattern images while canon is perfect!

Thank you
