I'm surprised no one here has mentioned JuiceLink's new Riggy line of DSLR preamps:

They're coming out the end of June, and will be available on B&H. Has anyone been looking to these as a possible preamp solution for their dslrs? Any pre-release thoughts?

Yeah I don't like the way the rig sits when it is screwed to the bottom of the camera, it's offset to one side and that makes the rig more unstable than it has to be. I also didn't like their suggestion of mounting it to the cold shoe which could make the camera top heavy - those are just my initial thoughts but so far I don't see myself every purchasing one.

I like the sound of the audio overload protection. I've been using a JuicedLink DT454 to record audio directly into my GH2 with great success. JuicedLink makes good stuff.

I use the JuicedLink DS214 Preamp (7.2 ounces) mounted to the rig with an adjustable ball head adapter. Set the angle to keep an eye on levels and volume settings. The Riggy line looks a little bigger but probably not that much heavier. I also mount it on occasion to the hotshoe - it does not feel unbalanced. The JuicedLink line is impressive for it's small size and build quality - it does exactly what the mfg. claims.
