Hi,

I writing a 'Rough Guide to DSLR Video' at the moment (http://www.icontactvideo.org/rought-guide_dslr_video) and am trying to find any decent reviews that focus on 'Sony Alpha' Video functionality. Basically I want to know if it is good enough to be a serious contender.

Also interested in the Panasonic Lumix vs Canon thing, what interests me is that the Canon seems to be being used by a lot more people even though the Panasonic does not have the 12 min video duration limit. I guess the Canon video must be a lot better.

Regards,
Ben

Not only has Panasonic eliminated the record-time limit, with the GH2 they have overcome the moire problem. I love the images I'm getting from my GH2 and I've been very happy with the audio I'm recording in-camera as well. How can Canon be any better?

Not only do I agree with Jason but so do these guys. Also you might want to notice, this isn't what you'd call a real "panasonic propoganda" site:

If you do some more investigating I think you will find the reason so many are shooting with Canons is you can buy the thing anywhere. What has really hampered Panasonic has been issues with their distribution. Coupling that with the quake, the result is their supply channel has been dry for months. The distribution issues were self inflicted. The quake set all the Japanese companies back for several months. But in the numbers race, Canon is definitely king.

Wow. The GH2 really seems to kick the shit out of the 60D. Apart from the shallow depth of field (which I know is a biggie) I guess the GH2 comes close to the 5DMkII in terms of low light performance. So we are saying the GH2 is a lot better than the GH1. Coupled with the lack of max record time limit, I am seriously thinking of trading in my 550D. Is there an adapter to use Canon Glass?

In terms of sound although Jason indicates he is 'happy' with the sound I would imagine that the internal pre-amps need to be turned right down and an external Jucelink/Betchbox would have to be used if you were doing high end/broadcast.

Is it possible to monitor audio?

does the GH2 now have everything that is needed without needing hacked firmware? From what I can gather there is currently none for the GH2.

Any other reviews would be good.

Just found the full review @ http://www.eoshd.com/content/460/canon-60d-versus-panasonic-gh2-full-review....

"For now, I recommend the GH2 over the 60D in every respect, even if you have Canon lenses. You can adapt the Canon lenses to work on the GH2, and they’ll look beautiful.".

Rock on;).

I fully agree, Jason. My GH2's are considerably better in all respects when compared to my old GH1's. With an excellent EVF, live HDMI out, clean ETC crop mode, audio input settings, view-meters and the 'tack sharp' 14-140 and 1.7 20mm pancake lenses, all is good!

I think many early Canon buyers, with a lot of money invested in lenses, will stand on their principles and stick with Canon. Too bad, as they are missing out on a great camera.
