Panasonic Lumix GH2
on Dec 14, 2010 at 6:36:38 am

Hello every one!
I'm trying to get the Panasonic Lumix GH2 from USA because the ones we have here in Japan is all in Japanese.. The one in the US has an English menu..
Where can I find the best deal of Panasonic Lumix GH2 with the lens 14-140? I looked up on the Internet but I got confused and I don't trust most of the stores on the net, any advice?
Thanks!

Other than Japan, the GH2 is barely available in most countries, especially in the US.

To the best of my knowledge, as of today, the GH2 is not for sale by authorized Panasonic US dealers. Or at least, these dealers aren't actually shipping GH2 cams to customers (some are taking pre-orders).

That will change "soon" as more GH2 cams get into the pipeline in coming days & weeks, but right now pretty much the only GH2 cams in the US were purchased from dealers in other countries, including Canada, Japan, UK & Germany, etc. Canadian & UK GH2 cams have on-screen menus in English.

... and when the GH2 _does_ become available in the US, some very good Panasonic authorized US dealers are:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/
http://www.adorama.com/
http://www.abelcine.com/

In Canada try:
http://www.henrys.com/
http://www.vistek.ca/

I'm sure there are others which forum members can recommend.

Cheers.

[Peter DeCrescenzo] "right now pretty much the only GH2 cams in the US were purchased from dealers in other countries, including Canada, Japan, UK & Germany, etc."

I managed to snag mine from a Canadian camera store just across the border. The three they were getting were sold before they reached the store!

B&H actually had a few silver GH2 cams for sale today, but sold out in minutes!

If you haven't already seen it, check out this (60+ page!) tale of woe:
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?226494-GH2-Pre-orders

Eventually, this too shall pass, and GH2 cams will begin trickling into the US, but as of today, the flood gates haven't cracked open yet. Stay tuned.

Jason! Thanks for sharing with us, how's the GH2? All the good sides about the GH2 all over the net, any downsides?

I like it! It is my first DSLR-type camera. I really like the touch-screen controls. Being able to tap and zoom in to check focus and interactively tweak the white balance are two really cool features. The 1080-24p video is stunning, but suffers from pretty bad skew/jello when going hand-held. However, this being my first experience with a DSLR-type camera, video-wise, I really don't have much to compare it to other than my HVX that I've been shooting with for years. I really can't say if the video is any better or worse than any other DSLR-type camera.

Thanks Peter!! I\'ll check them out
But don\'t u think they over priced the GH2?
In japan you can get the Gh2 with the 14-140lens with 1,500 USD and less but they give u 10%off with points, u can get anything else with those points
One of my friends told me to buy the Japanese one and hack it to English, I have a bad feeling about this so I\'m a go with the sites u provided me
Thanks agai Peter!

[Sala Sultan] "... One of my friends told me to buy the Japanese [GH2] and hack it to English ..."

There's no hack available for the GH2, and it's unpredictable when or if a hack for the GH2 will be available.

For the GH2 sold in Japan, the functions on all the physical dials of the camera itself are in english, not Japanese, and you are able to set the electronic screen menus to english in one of the setup settings (it has option for several languages). You can download the english version of the user manual off their website as well (link below). I'm an American living in China and am about to order this camera out of japan so have been researching this thoroughly. The only question I still have is it covered under an international warranty if purchased in Japan but since I live in asia not a big deal.

Here is the link to the english language manual - http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Products/LUMIX+Digital+Cameras/G+Micr...

and a nice selection of photos by japanese reviewer

good luck

I just bought a GH2 in Tokyo 2 days ago and can confirm you CANNOT change the menu's to english. The language change menu item is missing. However I was able to download the english manual on pdf and used this to setup. Waiting with baited breath a release of a hack for the camera....

Bought The GH2 on line, I got the English ver. Cause I never did the hack before so I thought it'll be difficult, but it seems that I saved about 200$ because the Japanese yen is stronger than the dollar there for 1500 USD is chapped than buying in japan on top of all that it\'s in Eng menu
Thanks guys for the support!!
And if any body here in Japan and like to hook up for some film shooting drop me a line!

Yikes! How stupid is that - they must be trying to hinder gray market sales by not including it. I was about to order one here in China on TaoBao but they are all shipped from Japan as it hasn't been officially launched here yet. Instead am picking one up in Hong Kong next week.

Hello Mike,
I'm about to order a GH2 from Hon Kong and I saw your post.
Did you got your camera?
Does record 25/50 fps?
Thanks for your help,
Rafael
