Looking to purchase a new camera and I'm currently looking at the Canon 5D Mark III versus Nikon D800.

Interested in hearing pros and cons.

Thanks,
Pam

It depend what investment of lenses, accessories you have. I went with the 5D MkIII because I am already invested in Canon lenses. I also wanted to use Magic Lantern which allows me to shoot RAW 14bit 1920x1080 video instead of h.264.

Hello Pam,

Will you be shooting in clubs, ambient light etc.?

The D750 actually has a newer processor than the D800, the D4S and the D800 (I own the D3S, D800 and the D7000) so at 24MP it matches the MK3 (up to 12,800 ISO) at a lot less of a cost.

As noted, which lenses do you already own?

For stills, there is an ever pointed debate that Nikon's have a better dynamic range than do Canons.

So, to sum it up, the D750 can now be considered as a replacement for the ubiquitous 12 MP D3S as the stills go to for wedding and non-flash shooters even with a burst of only 6 FPS. That is saying a lot.

As projects progress this year, I'll likely buy the D750 as Camera 'A' given that the one stop difference between the D800 and the D810 is negligible at 36 MP, at least for fine art landscape work.

Then again, I'm invested in over a dozen Nikon G, D and older (modded by Steve's Camera in Culver City) primes and zooms so that makes my decision easier.

These guys grudgingly have to hand HD enables DSLR crown for mirrored camera to the D750. At least for the next 15 minutes or so.

Have fun, no matter the choice.
