shooting 4 hour long presentation: which camera for under $700?
on May 14, 2014 at 2:55:12 am

I am prepping a corporate shoot.
THe presentation will be 4 hours.
I read about some limitations with the DSLR: 4Gb file max., possible overrheating....
I also read the GH3 would allow me to shoot the full 4hrs but it's over my budget
Will the GH2 work?

THe pb is that I don't think I'll be doing much corporate videos of this type. Might even be a one time thing... So I would like to find a camera with the recording quality of a DSLR (lenses, depth of field) so I can use it for shorter shoots...

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

The GH2 will do great. I once did a low motion/bitrate recording test with mine and it went for 7 hours straight! You'll want to get a 64GB SD card, like this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/839982-REG/SanDisk_SDSDRX3_064G_A21_6... which will give you 6 hours of recording time in 1080 24p mode. Doing some 4 hour test recordings beforehand would be a good idea as well.

Hi xavier - I have the GH2, and it's a great camera, but the problem is that it was discontinued a couple of years ago and there's no way you'll find a warrantied unit for less than $700.

The true successor to the GH2 is a brand new, warrantied, $647.99 (with kit lens) Panasonic G6.

It has the same ability to record long events, with the addition of focus peaking, an intervalometer and 1080/60p if you ever need it.

If you don't need a viewfinder or the large sensor interchangeable lens camera "look", though, a traditional camcorder such as the $598 Panasonic HC-V750 may be a better choice.

Hope this is helpful!

Thx Bill

But I actually went with an HMC40. I got a great deal and I think it's a good solid camera.

Don't dismiss 1080 P60 so fast.
It is not just for "Slo Mo".

The images are much better and there is little if any "judder".
If you shoot in AVCHD 28mbps the files are easy to deal with
and if you have a compatable Blue Ray Player and TV like I do
You can play the originals without any post processing.
