Just wondering if anyone has used the dolly in this video, and if so is it worth the money.

Looks like it would be good for simple shoots, but repeated use will show that the bend and flex of PVC (no matter how good they are) will just not work for any camera setup with any appreciable weight. I've build lots of dollies and I find PVC usually only good for small items or non-weight bearing things. A camera, like a DSLR by itself, is fine, but when you add rails, a mattebox, follow focus, mic, video, etc., you need a far more solid rig. If your camera slowly bounces along, dipping and rising as it goes along the rails, you need a solid (non-pvc) rig. Now, for simple shoots with only a camera and a minimal crew or just a camera operator, I'm sure it'll work.

What are you going to use it for? I suggest spending the extra cash if you plan to use it on a regular basis.

Jonathon,
Thanks for the reply. I just talked to a shooter in Australia who runs an XDcam with matt box, a video assist monitor, and a Sachler tripod on the track. He says he uses 14 Cinerails per 10 foot section of track, and it works great. I'd like to find others who've used them for a consensus view.

Okay so you are looking for a way to use them versus a comparison to other track systems. Let us know how they work out. I would take some time and compare with other pro and semi-pro track systems. You can rent them for not much for a weekend. Try indie dolly, too: http://www.indiedolly.com/ - found them at NAB a few years ago and they have a nice, versatile, inexpensive track system that I'd put against your PVC rails any day. ;) either way, let us know how it goes! :)

Jonathan, this is the guy that makes/sells cinerails. So he's probably just looking for customer feedback and/or advertising his product here. I was intrigued by it when I first saw it. Haven't tried it, though.

You're right :-). Jonathon caught me off guard when he piped in as a non user. I was looking for actual, honest feedback as to how the product was working out for folks. I was hoping to do this without making it an advertisement, but I couldn't let Jonathon's perception and opinion (without using the product) set the tone for something I didn't ask for. Thats why i replied with the comment about Daniel in Australia. No hard feelings Jonathon. I just didn't expect to get non users to reply. Talk about being between a rock and a hard place :-)
