Variable ND for video

I'm currently looking for a variable ND for my new Samyang 35mm T1.5 Cine lens, 77mm thread.

I'm aware you can spend a LOT of money on ND filters, you can also spend very little and get poor results.

However, I have a Hama ND2-400 for my lenses with 52mm threads and it was very cheap, but suffers the usual problems cheap NDs have - vignetting, the "cross pattern" - making it poor for photography.

However, given for video the simple purpose of a vario ND is to just stop down a bit, will any filter do?

I don't want to be spending £150 on an ND filter when it's only really needed for very long exposure photography.

The other big issue is white balance. The Hama goes from blue to yellow simply by turning it (not adjusting it) and one of my lenses rotates the front when focusing - not good!

So I need suggestions for cheap, but decent ND filters, without spending money on filters designed for advanced photography.

Hello Mike,

There are many choices as you noted.

The ND Fader filter from Genus is inexpensive:

They have an upgrade (laser cut) also now:

There are others but so far, I have not had issues using the older version other folks may differ in opinion.
