How do they stand up against red one? Will the scarlet be better than DSLR cameras?

They can't. RED is doing full frame video, Canon (and all others) need binning (see Wikipedia).

That leads to aliasing, since the OLPF can't be optimized for photography and video at the same time.
Plus, you don't have the latitude of RAW, you have highly compressed 8 bit video.

Nobody can tell you about Scarlet yet, but if it uses the same approach, it should win hands down.

DSLRs can look great on the web, RED can look great on the big screen – both in the right hands…

If you have someone to translate German for you, I just published a detailed test of Canon 5D M II vs. RED One in "Digital Production" (Munich).

The fact is, Hollywood are adopting the Canon 5D MK2 big time, George Lucas and countless TV shows. The Tonight Show shot it's new intro to the show on a Canon 5D.

Red is expected to be better, it's a lot more money. Look at the PL mount conversion being offered on the Canon 7D, which is aimed at the movie industry.

Today you can shoot with a 5D or 7D, when will you get a Scarlett as an option?

look at the sensor sizes:

Almost double the Red One.

But there is the down-scaling issue.
I'm not sure if they will fix that before NAB this year.
Really interested for RED day (Apr 14).
