Shooting vertically for green screen shoot

I remember hearing about a guy (might've been on an old COW podcast) who turned his Canon XL2 on it's side and shot a person vertically so it gave him maximum resolution for keying. Has anyone heard of this being done with a DSLR or tried it themselves?

Heard of it, haven't tried it....if the subject doesn't move I guess it could work out allright....although I am not sure if the increased resolution is going to make that huge a difference, I think the color space and data rate of the video would have more to do with green screen quality (oh and even lighting of course) but then I avoid green screen and haven't done any green screen keying since the DV days.

I would avoid shooting green screen with anything short of a 4:2:2 video camera unless you want noise nightmares. Even well lit green screen comes up short when you shoot a highly compressed format. Here are some good takes on the issues:

I have done this, with success. Not with a DSLR though, Was a Panasonic HPX-370.

Like Steve said, You need more color info collected with a green screen shoot.

I went through with the plan and shot vertically for the WS and horizontally for the MS. It worked fine.

Clearly, DSLRs aren't optimal for shooting green screen (but neither was DV yet lots of people did it). You've gotta work with what you have.
