Port 1099 RMIREGISTRY ISSUE?
on Feb 7, 2014 at 2:42:06 pm

I am occasionally seeing issues with CatDV server not wanting to start up on port 1099. Seems it could be a Java RMI issue? If I change the port to say 1098 the server starts error free. I have scanned the port and it does not seem to be in use. A copy of the log with the errors is below.

Has anyone come across these errors before? Any help is much appreciated.

This appears to be a 'iscsid' daemon issue. Anyone running ATTO XTEND SAN beware.

ISCSI SAN's are quite popular in video environments, Rolf perhaps you can see why this issue occurs? Not sure if its rmiregistry related.

Here is the offending line:

[1;14:53:38.743] at com.attotech.iscsid.Daemon$RMILoaderSPI.loadClass(Daemon.java:2003)

I kill this process and port 1099 becomes available again.

Check that old thread. Just replied.

Move it to port 1199, or any free port. We chose that one because it was easy to remember.

Hi Bryson, yes I just replied to that old one but it did not seem to go through.

Anyway, I wanted to keep catdv on the default port and understand why it was doing it.

Did you get your answer?

Sadly there's no "law" for who gets what port. I believe it's Atto's notification service that runs on 1099.

If you install an Atto raid card but don't enable the monitoring (I forget what it's called) this doesn't happen. Since that monitoring/notification is pretty important, we leave it on and move CatDV.

You might contact Atto and ask if theirs can be swapped.

Here's a thread. Looks like it might be the Config Tool.
