10 bit 4:2:2 All-I GH5 laaaaags in Davinci, plays smoothly in PPro

Are there any settings I can use to smooth things out in DaVinci? It's been lagging big time since I started using the GH5's heaviest setting, which supposedly is supposed to run a lot smoother than Long GOP, but it lags even with no tweaks. I haven't used Premiere Pro in months but out of curiosity I just opened it and loaded footage I just shot and it played smooth as silk even with tweaks AND Film Convert Pro piled on.

So, again, anything besides optimized footage and smart rendering I can do? Like I said Premiere Pro played the footage fine with no settings adjustments AND tweaks and plugins piled on.

Different pieces of software have different optimizations for different codecs. You could try turning on the performance mode or updating your Resolve to 14.1

Way ahead of ya this time, Tero. No difference.

I'd still convert it all to ProRes 422HQ or DNxHR and use the transcoded files for final color. (Given a big enough system, DPX or EXR would work as well, but it'd be total overkill.)

I don't see the point clinging to the camera files -- they're not buying you anything in terms of quality. It just stresses out the system that much more.

Tried that previously, Marc. It's something weird going on because I'm getting like 3fps playback even on clean files. It was a lot better before. Ah! Maybe during one of my tweaking sessions I set something to a heavy color output or something. I'll look into it and report back.

Make optimized media. This is exactly the kind of circumstance it was made for, particularly if you're talking about UHD resolution (which I suspect you are even though you didn't specifically say it).

Premiere Pro's Mercury engine is indeed a very optimized playback engine that does work well with H.264 and H.264 derived codecs. That doesn't mean you're going to get the same thing in other software. That said, there is no downside to using the optimized media in Resolve, as you can switch back to the originals for rendering with one menu click.

Thanks, guys, but the reason I originally posted was because the files ran a lot smoother before. As it turns out I did, in fact, make a bad tweak in the settings. I had created some optimized files, DNxHR SQ in fact, and they still ran at 3fps. I changed my color management settings back to where they should be, and the files played smoothly. I then unchecked "use optimized..." and the files still played back at 24 fps. So, problem solved. I meant to update this thread but got distracted. Sorry about that.
Cheers!
