Which Color Correction Console and Transport to get?

Decision help please :) I'm looking to buy a Color Correction Console and Transport to use with Media Composer and Resolve. Would all of these allow me to work in both programs? Thanks for any help!

Avid Artist Color:

I struggled thru the same exercise you are now asking about. Ultimately, I ended up buying, over time, both the Avid Artist Color and the Tangent Wave. In short, the Avid Artist color was a total waste of my money. Without going into all the problems I had with it, it's enough to say that it only partially works within Media Composer Symphony.

The Tangent Wave works perfectly with Davinci Resolve. In addition, the latest version of the Tangent Hub allows me to program an incredible functionality into it for Media Composer.I will say that I have not been able to program the BALLS to function with the color wheels. Having said this, however, I will note, also, that the Color Wheels in Avid work exceedingly slowly(unacceptably slow with a lag) even with the Artist Color. In short, I'm better off using the mouse to adjust the color wheels in Media Composer.

All things considered, i would highly recommend the Tangent WAVE with the Hub application.

I run the Avid control, Avid Colour and Avid Transport.

Control works well with Resolve - as a programmable hot keys surface.
Color works well with Resolve.

I have actually never tried Color with MC, I have no need to.

Control works very well with MC as a transport control and hot buttons program
Transport works well with MC as a transport control and hot buttons program, but with less buttons, and more brain power to remember where you mapped everything.

All 3 need to be connected to the same network. This can be a bit of a hassle. You will probably need a hub to use these in addition to your basic internet hookup cable.

Personally, i have the Avid Transport on the coffee table by the client monitor. If we are sitting there watching down a show, i can control my box.

Other than that, i stick to the Control and Color surfaces for most of my work.

If you want a cheap solution, I also have used (and love) a G13 gaming control to map hot keys for pretty much any program you want to run.

I disagree strongly. I know of a dozen colorists in various cities who are using it just fine with Resolve 12. What I will agree with you on is that Avid's support for the MC Color panel is lousy and their user guide is inadequate. It can be done, but you need to know what you're doing and understand how to set up permissions (at least under Mac OSX) and ethernet.

I've worked on hundreds and hundreds of feature films and TV episodes with the full-size daVinci panels, the Tangent Wave panels, the MC Color panels, and have some experience with the Tangent Elements panels (which are excellent), but I'd say the MC Color panels are the best alternative to the full-size panels out there. They're a good value for the money. In truth, I use an X-Keys 80 panel off to the side to get to all the functions the MC Color panel can't reach, but the combination of the two is very productive for me.

I readily admit that this is a personal decision, like buying a car or shoes or a hat. There's no one "best choice" that will work for everybody.
