Affordable Reference Monitor for color grading
on Sep 18, 2015 at 6:05:44 pm

Hello there,

I'm trying to find a good Reference Monitor that is affordable for me (maximum of $2,000).
I have a DeckLink SDI card, so I'm thinking of a SDI Monitor.
I am going to use this monitor for color grading, and it don't need to be a big screen, 17'' seems ok to me.

Any sugestions?

"Affordable" is a relative term. Your best bet is to go with a monitor that has an ability to internally store a user generated LUT. Then, calibrate it with a tool like s p e c t r a c a l.NEC makes some nice models that do this with IPS displays. Short of this approach, it might make a lot of sense to buy a LUT box, like the Fuji IS-Mini, that you can plug in to any display. The only real requirement is to get a display that has an expanded colorspace, like the ones that have 99% Adobe RGB.

So, you think somethink like ' Dell U2415 24" Widescreen LED Backlit IPS Monitor ' Calibrated with a LUT box might be what I need?

Then my 'decklink sdi 4k' card will be of no use for now?

Many thanks!

I would sure like to have a Flanders Scientific, but I can't afford it yet (and I'm from Brazil, so It is a little bit complicated to find FSI Monitors, only importing, and the TAX are insane.)

For now I'm trying to find something so I can start working as colorist.
Thanks!

I haven't used it or seen one, but if price is a concern and you need SDI, B&H sell something called the View Z VZ-215LED-SN for around $755 US. From what I've gathered around the internet, they are a South Korean company that make OEM displays for broadcast and other industries. Now they launched their own label, so the quality should be decent. But I can't vouch for them since I haven't used one, but B&H typically don't stock things if they are not somewhat reputable.

Thank you guys!
Unfortunately here in Brazil everything is too expensive, and now 1 Dolar is 4 Reais.

I'll try to find something good here, and maybe in a few years get money enough to buy something better!

Thanks again!
