I understand that during playback in the Color room, a GPU indicator thats Red means that the GPU cannot keep up with real time playback, but what does it mean during render? Does it mean that the CPU (and Red Rocket) are fast enough, but the GPU is the bottleneck?
I have a 2009 Mac Pro 2 x 2.26 (8 core) with GTX580 3GB and Red Rocket. When rendering 4k R3Ds to 1920x1080 ProResHQ, it will fluctuate between 18 and 25fps (but can always play in real time 23.98 in the Color room). Activity monitor averages around 600% CPU for Resolve during rendering. i'm guessing this is due to the ProRes encoding and scaling. the GPU indicator is always Red during rendering, but is mostly Green during playback in the Color room. I've been under the impression that the Red Rocket is the bottleneck and can only play 4k at 24fps at full debayer. But if the GPU indicator is Red during render, does that mean a faster GPU will increase render speed?
If I'm rendering a 1920x1080 ProresHQ source timeline to 1920x1080 ProResHQ export with only 1 or 2 nodes per clip, i get roughly 60fps and 1300% CPU, and the GPU indicator is Red. Again, does this mean that a faster GPU would raise the FPS? If the CPU was maxed out at 1600%, would the GPU indicator then turn Green?
