Decklink Extreme HDMI ports - grrrr

I just got a Red Rocket, yeah! But now I have to figure out how to get HDMI outputs from the Decklink Extreme since now all the PCI slots are full. Anyone cutting their Mac Pro cases, or perhaps just leaving the door partway open?

Come on BMD! AJA figured this out, haha.

thanks

Thanks Juan. That's a good idea.

But since all my cards are full height - GT120, GTX580, Red Rocket, Decklink - I'm not sure I'd be able to cut any of them.

You can lose the gt120 and use single GPU. Set Video Monitor to optimized mode.

Alternatively, get an external SDI to HDMI converter.

[Rohit Gupta] "get an external SDI to HDMI converter."

There is that option, ie. HDLInk, which isn't a bad idea, as I also use it as an SDI audio disembedder, but it is galling to have to pay more to implement a video stream that already exists, but is inaccessible because of Apple hardware shortcomings.

I do have an extra HDLink Pro, so I'll give that a shot. We use the HDMI output to feed a 7.1 Receiver, which is feeding a projector. Hopefully the HDLink can pass the 5.1 HDMI audio we use for certain demo reels. i don't think this receiver has a 6 channel RCA input (even though my 13 year old Sony receiver at home does)

i was thinking about just getting a spare Mac Pro door off eBay, and drilling a hole in that.

hey jPo, i wouldn't blame Apple. if there was another slot in the Mac Pro, you better believe I would be using it for another card. It would be nice if BMD used mini-HDMI connectors like AJA.

[Eric Hansen] " i wouldn't blame Apple."

Oh, but I do.

They are the reason I have a Cubix adapter, and I lost eSATA functionality, because I needed to slot in my 4-lane ATTO interface... its not for the lack of one more slot; its a bigger problem than that.

i know how you feel jPo, and i feel the same way. just not about this particular problem (HDMI output for BMD card).

btw, if your ATTO card is SAS, you can get something like this:

http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Micro%20Accessories/SAS480001M/

and enable eSATA passthrough in ATTO Config. it won't work for port multiplied enclosures though.
