Online Training. Which one should I go with?
on Feb 14, 2013 at 10:42:10 pm

I am quickly learning Resolve Lite and want to take my knowledge to the next step. I have found a few different options, but not sure which one I should get. Here are the ones I'm considering:

- Ripple Core Training
- Color Grading Central membership
- Tao of Color
- FXPHD

Based on other peoples experience and more bang for my buck which one should I go with? I'm looking to start today!

Thanks Jordan

all of them are great jordan
my suggestion is :
1:Ripple Core Training : its not for davinci 9 but you can figure out the difference between versions after some comparison. its the first because it starts from basic and explains most panel .

fxphd: fxphd have 4 or 5 courses about grading
for davinci and color correction
i suggest start with (after ripple) :
1:DAV210 — grading with da Vinci Resolve
2.The Craft of Color Grading ( not about davinci but about grading and its awesome )

- Color Grading Central membership
- Tao of Color
both are good i saw free stuff of both and they are great its the matter of taste ...

and a quick about 3hour introduction for resolve 9 and certainly a good one ( you can see it before ripple ) :
cVFX _DaVinci Resolve Introduction

and in the end some free online sources :

http://www.amazon.com/The-Technique-Digital-Color-Correction/dp/0240809904

hope this help

Hi Hamid,

I'm switching from Apple Color.
I have DaVinci Resolve Lite 9.1.6, will transfer to Lite 10 after Beta testing is done.
I got DAV101 , but tutorial is from earlier version of Resolve and it's a bit confusing. Since I have some experience as a colorist, can I start with DAV210 right away or I need to find some beginners tutorial for Resolve 9 first?
Is Ripple Training way to go or maybe cVFX _DaVinci Resolve Introduction?

Thanks

Seth

Hi Seth
in Fxphd's "GRD201: The Craft of Color Grading" the software that is used is baselight not davinci, its a very useful Course for expanding your grading knowledge and I highly recommend this ( and the other new course of this series "GRD202: The Craft of Color Grading II " ) but it adds up nothing to your Resolve knowledge,90% of full pack tutorials are for old version of resolve, for new version of Resolve you can try great tutorial's of Denver Riddle here :

hope that it helped
If you've got any other question about resolve don't hesitate to ask

Hi Hamid,

yes, I know about GRD201: The Craft of Color Grading. Great stuff! Gonna definitely try GDR202.

But I was actually asking about FXPHD - DAV101 - Introduction to Resolve on Mac. I was just wondering can I start right away with DAV210.
Weird thing is, none of them is listed on FXPHD site anymore, don't know why...

Since I'm still on Resolve 9, I guess Ripple Training - Davinci Resolve 9 Core Training or cmiVFX – DaVinci Resolve 9 Beta – FastTrack should get me started. I was just wondering which one is better.

Thanks

Seth

HI Seth

I worked a little with resolve on Mac and didn't see any apparent difference between win and mac version ( maybe in config )so i don't think there will be any need to Emphasis "on Mac " part of Tutorial.
Almost forgot :) i saw "Dav210" and that's based on resolve 8 and as there is some UI differences between 8 and 9.1.6 ,it takes time to find relative tools in version 9.1.6, so i don't recommend Dav210 and dav101 too.
And between Ripple Training and cmiVFX as their times shows ( about 2:30 cmiVFX to 11 hour Ripple Training ) Ripple Training have a more comprehensive and deeper look into different pages and tools of resolve, So I highly recommend This :
