Did Resolve ever work without a CUDA GPU?
on Feb 7, 2013 at 11:53:00 pm

I've installed the latest version of DaVinci Resolve Lite on my machine (using only an ATI Radeon HD4870), and can't get it to run. It's said that a CUDA-supporting GPU is required -- yet I could swear that I've used Resolve on this machine in the past.

Is the CUDA requirement something to more recent versions? If so, what's the latest version that can be run on an ATI consumer GPU? Or am I mixing something up?

[Ryan Plant] "s the CUDA requirement something to more recent versions? If so, what's the latest version that can be run on an ATI consumer GPU?"

A few months ago, my NVIDIA GTX 570 failed. I was in the middle of a project and could not have it fixed right away. To my surprise, I was able to run Resolve with my ATI Radeon HD 5770 under Mountain Lion (10.8) operating system. Don't expect much realtime in HD format, but at least it allowed me to complete some work.

I hope this helps,

Resolve for Mac works today without a Cuda GPU. You do however need a powerful OpenCL GPU and even then performance is limited in comparison to CUDA.
Please refer to the config guides for details.

By specifying "Resolve for Mac", are you saying that Resolve for Windows doesn't work without a CUDA GPU? That would be my problem, if so.

That is correct, only the Mac supports a limited number of non-CUDA cards.

It's a non-issue on PC's as there are dozens of CUDA enabled cards to choose from and it's as easy as heading down to Frys or Best Buy (at least here in the US) and picking up the right card for a few hundred bucks. Not quite so easy with the Mac.
