DPX Anamorphic Output Issue

DPX Anamorphic Output Issue

Hey Folks,

I have some anamorphic ARRI footage (2880x2160) that is not exporting correctly. The footage is interpreted correctly on input into resolve (reads as Cinemascope in Clip Attributes), but after applying a lut and exporting, the DPX output doesn't seem to be flagged correctly as anamorphic. Importing the DPX into Flame, Nuke and AE they are all reading it as square pixel. They all read the original ARRI footage correctly but not the DPX.

The output settings are Render at source resolution, Pixel aspect ratio is set to Cinemascope, and Force debayer resolution to highest quality is checked. I've also experimented with Disable edit and input sizing and Force sizing to highest quality on and off. Neither has any effect. In fact changing the Pixel aspect ratio from Cinemascope to Square doesn't have any effect either.

Something I'm missing?

This is in Resolve 12.1.0.015

What if you manually set the sizing in Resolve as the clip is rendered? This has always worked for me. If the output resolution is 2880x2160 (1.33:1) that's how it's going to wind up. If you want it scope, resize it to 2880x1205 with a vertical unsqueeze and then it'll be 2.39. I would do a test and see if this will work.

Hey Marc! Thanks for the above response. I follow you on most forums as you are one of the most Senior and knowledgeable working professionals out there. So thanks for all the input to the community!

I am having a similar problem as Carl;

Workflow:

Raw footage shot on the Red Weapon Monstro 8K at 2x anamorphic.
Format: 8K 6:5 - Aspect Ratio: 1.20:1 - Resolution: 5184 X4320

Working timeline resolution and deliverable (1920X1080)

I am coloring and onlining in Resolve 15.2 but after color the VFX/Graphics Dept. needs the footage exported at source resolution in TIFF sequences. Then they will send back source resolution (or deliverable which is 1920X1080) and I will export masters from Resolve.

My question is this; when exporting out QT uncompressed at full HD for client review everything looks as it should but when sending off to VFX at source in TIFF or DPX should I be changing the PAR back to square (in either edit or delivery page) and then VFX desqueezes it again? Should I export at "source resolution" or do the math according to the aspect ratio?

Basically what workflow would you do if you were faced with this situation. Including input and ouput sizing settings and anything else that might trip up the process.
