Resolve 12 - Fatal PCIe Error on HP Z840
on Nov 4, 2015 at 7:22:24 pm

Hi,

I'm working on HP Z840, with NVIDIA K4200 for GUI and 2 Geforce GTX 980 installed in a chassis Netstor NA255.
We are doing exclusively UHD 2160p 50 projects.
When it was running the 11.3.1, it was a little bit slow for realtime playback but everything was working well.
Unfortunately some media from Avid ingest are not recognized by the v11. So it was grateful to upgrade in 12.0.1.

But now I encounter an issue with the HP, it crash and reboot randomly during simple playback. The PC restart and show a message : 928-Fatal PCIe error ... Reset Caused by SERR on Slot 4 (where is the netstor controller HBA).
I followed the BM specifications, I installed a new system on Windows 8.1, with latest drivers and updates. I took off the others cards, red Rocket X, 10Gb Myricom and still

Anyone had seen this issue or have any idea about that ?

Many thanks for your helps.

Romain

Hi all,

For information, in this config, if you update in Resolve 12, you have to force the speed on the slot 5 to Gen 2.
If you stay in Auto, you will have the fatal error.

I hope that it can be of use to others.

Those type of settings should be in your BIOS Settings.
To get into your BIOS there will be a key to hit like ESC, F2, or F10 as soon you boot the system.

I think HP Systems use F2 but you may have to look that up.
Just be careful in the BIOS settings not to change anything but this one setting.

"MY MEDIA/PROJECT MOTO: If you think three copies of your media or project are enough.
Take a moment to place a value on them and then maybe add two more.
Hard Drives are now stupidly cheap. A RE-SHOOT AND YOUR TIME AREN'T."

It's in the Bios... I don't have a bios cheat sheet for that machine in front of me, but just get into the bios and look for the PCIe settings. you should find it there.

Hi,
To go on the Bios in HP, press F10 key on the first boot, you will enter in the BIOS Menu, then go to :
- Advanced
- Slot Settings
- Go down to Slot 4 - PCI E x16
- In limit PCIe Speed menu : select Gen2 (5Gbps)
- Press F10
Save and restart.

Cheers..
Rom
