Uprezing in Resolve, is it worth it or should I...

I need to uprez some HD to UHD to intercut with UHD shot material.

I know about the Tenarex Espress. But I couldn't find any reviews or test results online. It seems nobody has one of these boxes.

I know the Tenarex is powerful but uprezes it on the fly.

So I was wondering if it is really that much better than just doing it in Resolve? Specially that the Resolve conversion is not on the fly, so maybe it has more time to calculate it? I know the Tenarex is very powerful though.

All I'm asking is, is it worth getting a Tenarex Express over just doing it in Resolve?

It would be converted from 24p 1080 10 bit 444 to 24p UHD. Thanks.

Not to make things more confusing, but do you have access to a system with Adobe Premiere Pro / After Effects with a CUDA card? In my experience the uprezing is of good quality, I believe better than Resolve itself... so I have not done any thorough comparison with a Teranex converter...

No, we don't use any of the Adobe products. Thanks.

Hi Michael,

If you're interested in a 3rd party plug-in to handle the uprez you might want to take a look at BCC UpRez from BorisFX. We designed this task-specific filter to be easy to use while generating a sharp, clean result. We have trial versions available now up on our web site.

Cheers,

Peter.

Don't know about your budget, but next to the Terranex this is the best solution :

My budget is the Teranex Express.

So basically if Resolve, which I already have, is not a good option, I'm not interested in using other software or plug-in. If I have to pay for something I will pay for hardware. Not for another software.

But budget is up to the price of a Teranex Express, and I hear it can't be beaten in that price range and even more expensive units don't really beat it. After all it used to cost $80K.

I just wanted to know if doing it in Resolve would be too far behind or get too inferior results.

And thanks everybody for all replies and suggestions.
