Resolve 11 lite on 17" MacBook Pro?
on Aug 12, 2014 at 3:45:10 pm

Just wondering.

I know it's not on the recommended list, but the one I have, an early 2011, fits all the minimum requirements in the Readme. I know if it did work it wouldn't play anything smoothly, but 10 doesn't and was still great on this machine, and I want to play with some of the new editing stuff to see if it's worth springing for a new machine.

But after installation, Resolve 11 crashes out during startup. No crash log. Just gone.

Has anyone else tried on the older MacBook Pros? Any ideas?

I'm using a BM UltraStudio mini monitor.

Thanks!

Mike

[Mike Parfit] "fits all the minimum requirements in the Readme."

Must be something different… overall memory, supported GPU, threshold VRAM…???

Update your CUDA version.

Many thanks for the comments. Unfortunately I'd already checked minimum memory, etc., and updated the CUDA version to 6.0.37, which is recommended.

Resolve 11 crashes in the same place no matter what I do, as it is loading Project Settings. I trashed my project settings, but it still crashed at the same place.

Any other ideas?

I know it's fairly tacky complaining that a non-recommended computer can't seem run the program, but this MacBook Pro is not even close to four years old and was at the top of its class at the time. It even has a Thunderbolt port, whee. And Resolve 10 ran fine except for being a little slow playing back graded timelines.

I found the crash log, so here's the end of each one. Same every time. Not that it tells me anything, but maybe someone else can read it, so here it is:

16 libsystem_pthread.dylib 0x00007fff8db8dfc9 thread_start + 13
Signal Number = 11

Thanks,

Mike

The crash log that relevant is one made by CaptureLogs which is a Resolve app.. run it after the crash and prior to restarting Resolve.... my guess is, the early 2011 17" MBP is a AMD Radeon GPU. Just 1 GB ram.. so HD only.. but it also has a Intel HD graphics chip.. so it maybe that you have not disabled the Intel GPU and so its crashing on launch due to that.. just an idea and as you say, this is not a recommended platform for v11.

Hi, Peter,

Thanks for the response.

I disabled the Intel GPU by turning off graphics switching in system preferences the day I bought the machine. I imagine that's why Resolve 9 and 10 worked on this machine with the UltraStudio mini monitor.

I'd be fine if I could only work with SD with this. I just want to try out the editing enhancements.

I have tried to attach the CaptureApp file to this thread but it didn't work, probably because I'm unfamiliar with the process, so I've put the text log in question after my signature. I will attempt to send the tgz file to support.

The only thing I can think of that makes my machine unusual and might affect Resolve 11 is that I have a full version of Easy DCP 2.0 installed. That hasn't affected Resolve 10, but maybe 11 handles it differently. On the crash log that recurs each time, the crash is preceded by lines referring to FraunhoferDCP.

Is there any chance of Easy DCP being the problem? If so, can it be solved?

Thanks,

Mike
